Capitel 58: Leuven - Diest

In 1886 there were plans of private persons to create a tram line from Leuven to Diest over Tielt and Scherpenheuvel. One year later the NMVB also made a plan to create a tram line from Leuven to Diest in a direct direction. Some yeare were lost with discussions, but on 29 august 1892 the capital of the line was created.
Financing: 1.160.000 francs (state: 290.000, province Brabant 290.000, local governement 572.000, private persons 8.000).
The community of Diest was not willing to participate. So the line ended in this city at the city border. Only years later, in 1911, when the line from Diest to Koersel was made, a connection between the two line was made over the city border from the Vest to the railway station. For this, the capital was raised with 260.000 francs.
