Capitel 127: Lignes du Borinage

Trackwidth: 1000 mm

One of the largest capitals of the NMVB. It was late when thic capital was formed. Only around the century of 1900 plans were made. Several lines around Mons were included in one capital.

There was a great difference between lines. West of Mons was the Borinage, with mines and a densely built area. The lines in this area were all electrified from the beginning. Electricity was taken from public electricity plants, and was electrified on 600 Volt single phase. Around 1921 this was changed to the normal electricity which was also used on other lines of the NMVB.

South and south east of Mons there was an area which was sparcely built. The lines here were for a great part only agricultural. These lines were not electrified. In the 30 years on these line the steam traction was replaced by diesel autorails.
