This series of 20 electric locs was ordered in 1998. It was the same as the NMBS (Belgium) series 13.
In Belgium, there were a lot of troubles with these locs, mainly because of the 3000 Volt system. In Luxemburg, the locs are more succesful.
In the first years they have been in in exploitation on line 3 Wasserbillig - Luxemburg - Rodange, later on they were mainly used for goods trains and on line 1 (Luxemburg - Troisvierges). In later years they were only used as motive power for goods trains, running into Belgium.
As has been decided that the locs because of lack of ETCS are no more longer allowed in Belgium and Luxemburg, they all will be out of serve in 2025. From 2021 several locs were leased to Lineas in Belgium; they could be seen all over Belgium.
In the year 2000 loc 3001 (only two years old) was destroyed by a fire and not rebuilt. On 7-3-2021 a fire in the motor compartement of loc 2012 was the reason that this loc will be taken out of service.
