In the first quarter of the year 2003 the CFL had the possibility to lease two locs (type Traxx) of the German series BR 185.520. The lease was for a period of three years. Later on, in july of the same year, four more locs were leased, so the total number of leased locs was six. The locs came brand new directly from the manufacturer to the CFL.
The locs are suited for 25 kV (50 Hz) and for 15 kV (16 2/3 Hz) (german system).
In 2003 the CFL has ordered to buy 20 locs of the same type. They have been delivered from 2004 until 2005. They have been numbered in the series 4000. As there was not so much work for the locs 185.xxx , the loc 185.520 and 185.523 have been leased out in 2005 to TXL in Germany. Later on, the other locs have left Luxemburg.
