In 2003 the CFL had the possibility to lease two locs of the series BR 185.520 (type Traxx). Later on in the same year, four more locs were leased, so the total number of that leased locs is six.
In 2003 the CFL has ordered to buy 20 locs of this type. It has been numbered from 4001. The locs were delivered from september 2004 until march 2005.
The locs are suited for 25 kV (50 Hz) and for 15 kV (16 2/3 Hz) (german system).
They normally ride with the new double deck coaches which were also delivered in 2004 and in 2005. End 2005 some locs with double deck coaches were leased out to the BLS in Switzerland.
