In 1981 a large accident occurred with EMU 254. It was out of service for several months. Because CFL severely needed replacement of this stock, one three-part EMU was hired from SNCF, number Z6169. It was built in 1971. The stock was almost of the same build as CFL series 251, so that it could be combined with it when needed.
In 1982, when CFL EMU 254 was rebuilt, it was decided not to sent the hired EMU back to France, but it was bought by the CFL.
It could be combined with the series 251.
In 1985 it was decided to buy a second EMU from SNCF, now the number 262.
