Diesel trains series 2100

Description

Because of rising train frequencies and also raising number of people travelling by train, in the end of 1999 it became nescessary to buy new rolling stock. An important item on the list of nescessities was the fact that the stock could soon be delivered. Other needs were technical safety, high comfort and a large number of capacity per unit.

On 24 december 1999 the board of the CFL decided to achieve 6 DMU by Alsthom. They are the same as French SNCF DMUs series X73.500 (and the German Reihe 641). The first unit arrived on 4 oktober 2000. First tests appeared to be very positive, so that from 16 oktober 2000 this unit could be taken into public service on the line Bettembourg-Dudelange. They were riding on the line Bettembourg-Dudelagen, Luxemburg-Kleinbettingen and Ettelbruck-Diekirch.

As in 2005 more rolling stock was delivered, and as all of the network is now electrified, the DMUs of series 2100 were no more needed. In 2005 they have been sold to the SNCF, who owes more items of the same build (series X73).
