On the top left of the page, we see a drawing of the tram network in the city of Luxembourg. It showes us the situation back in the heyday, say but just before 1940.
With normal lines on the map the network of the TVL is shown. Two lines side by side means that the lin there was double track. As you can see was the network with few exceptions, almost entirely single track.
Two times we see a dotted line; that shows the country tramline to Echternach and to Remich.
The tram coming from Echternach had a connection to the line of the TVL in Eich. Some (steam) trams were riding on to the railway station (Gare) of Luxemburg on the tracks of line 12 via Mühlenbach and Rollingergrund. Whatever also occurred, was pulling of goods vans by a motor coach of the electric tram of the TVL via Rollingergrund and/or through the city to the station.
From the south there was a line coming from Remich. This line had a connection to the tram network at the railway station (Gare). But normally there were no carriages going on from one to the other line.
As we can see in the picture, in the network of the TVL there was a strong focus on the connection between the station (Gare) and the Centre. Line 6 came near the station, and for the rest all lines did so, with an exception of line 9 and 10. And all lines just were somewhere near the vicinity of the town centre, either near Parc, either on the Place Guilaume II.
In the picture above there is a map of the center of the city. Almost all lines passed somewhere the city center. All lines were single track with some passing tracks on some places in the network. Only some piece of the network in the city center you can imagine that as double track; one way it was by the Rue de l'Eau, and the other way it was by the Rue de la Reine and the Rue du Fossé.
Each line is discussed in detail below. At first horse tram, and thereafter the lines of the electric tram are described per line:
