We write location Dommeldange, but to be honest, we should write "Eich". That is the community where the industries were situated. But the border between Eich and Dommeldange is situated in the railway line. The station is in Dommeldange, the industry was in Eich.
The location in Eich was one of the first in Luxemburg. In 1838 three brothers Metz founded the "Société en commandite Auguste Metz & Cie.". Some years later they founded a factory in this place. In 1865 the first blast furnace was opened (that is, 3 years after the opening of the railway). The factory produced cast iron, which was processed further in Burbach (near Saarbrücken in Germany)
In 1870 the company merged with another firm and they opened a new factory in Schifflange. In 1911 it was one of the three companies which were involved with the creation of Arbed.
When around the year 1972 the steel crisis began, the blast furnaces in Eich were closed. Other metal works were brought into a new independent firm (part of Arbed) as MecanArbed.
